Kentwood Players gets New Seats

It is an ill wind....

The saying goes that "It is an ill wind, that blows no man good."

Due to a series of misfortunes, the longtime South Bay community theater group Palos Verdes Players was forced to cease operations. It is reported that the roof of the Palos Verdes Playhouse suffered extensive damage due to last winters heavy rains. At the same time the players lost their lease. The group was unable to find new quarters in a reasonable time.

When the final closing announcement was made, the board of Kentwood Players offered P.V. Players $300 for their theater seats. Over a 3 week period in late June / early July 2005 an enthusiastic Kentwood crew moved the seats from the former P.V. Playhouse to the Westchester Playhouse. The moving and installation crew included Richard Potthoff, Mel Miller, Ben Lupejkis, Tom Brophey, Bob Schnauss, and Jim Crawford.

D-day... New seats arrive at the Westchester Playhouse. Movie theater type seats from the Palos Verdes Playhouse find a new home.

Out with the old... Westchester Playhouse's old seats retired to the parking lot. In the spirit of fellowship Kentwood will donate 60 old seats to Morgan/ Wixon Theater.

In with the new... Kentwood crew unloads new theater seats from truck. Installation follows.

Seldom seen sight... The Westchester Playhouse Auditorium somewhat sans seats, as the crew measures and installs properly spaced rows.

Moving forward... row by row the crew moves the seats forward to the stage area.

Final touches... Placing new rows in position transformation nears completion.

Almost done... Ed, Richard, Ben and Tom take a well deserved break.
