A Short History of KentwoodPlayers.org
by Andy Klute - Site Designer and Web Master

Here are the events that led to the development of the Kentwood Players web site, which came online in July of 2000.

I moved to Playa Del Rey as a young boy just a few years after Kentwood Players came into existence, and I grew up in this area. Other than living in Canoga Park for 10 years, I never strayed from the Westchester area. Over the years I had heard many good things about Kentwood Players and had often thought of going to see a play, but somehow never managed to get around to it.

It wasn’t until about mid 2000 that I finally decided to find out where they were located so that I could enjoy an evening at the theater. I got on my computer and searched the internet to find the KP web site, but of course there was none to be found. I later found the location of the Westchester Playhouse in The Argonaut, the local newspaper.

The first play I attended was "Two by Two" and it was there that I met Dave Parke, although I can’t remember now if I met him before or after the play's performance that night. But while talking with Dave I asked if Kentwood Players would be interested in having a web site and I told him that I would be happy to volunteer my services as a web site developer. He was clearly interested in the idea and thought the Kentwood Players Board of Directors would be interested as well.

It was at that point that I developed the site on my personal web site as a prototype to see if it met with Kentwood Players’ approval. With their support, a few months later I registered the URL/web address of www.kentwoodplayers.org.

Now eight years later the web site is going strong with the help and support of Kentwood Players members who assist me in keeping the site current. It has been my pleasure to not only supporting Kentwood Players over the years, but to have enjoyed many wonderful performances at their Westchester Playhouse "home" as well.

I would like to thank all the people that have provided support to keep the site interesting and up-to-date. I would like to give a special thanks to Hal Fisher for his support as liaison between Kentwood Players and me over the past several years. Now that Hal has stepped down, Shari Barrett will be assuming that role. I have had the pleasure of working with Shari in the past and look forward to continuing to work with her to keep the site a valuable resource for Kentwood Players.

I welcome your suggestions or comments about the site, so please feel free to email Shari at or me at Please direct technical questions to me.
