General Meeting

The General Meeting this month will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, 8:00 P.M. at the theater, Westchester Playhouse, 8301 Hindry Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

Hospitality

45 Seconds From Broadway, Neil Simon
January/February (2006)

45 Seconds has garnered excellent reviews and has been packing in the audiences. If you have not seen this show yet, you better hurry, reservations are going fast.

45 Seconds From Broadway, by Neil Simon, is directed by Gail Barnardi, with Jim Crawford stage managing. The producers of 45 Seconds from Broadway are Calia Mintzer, and Lori Marple Pereslete.

Romeo & Juliet, William Shakespeare
March/April Production

Romeo and Juliet plays March 10, 2006 through April 15, 2006. Work Sunday: 2/19/06.

Our March April 2006 production will be Romeo & Juliet, by William Shakespeare, to be directed by Don Schlossman and produced by Ed Cotter.

Don has assembled and extraordinary cast of 20 and will announce them to the membership at the February meeting. Producer Ed Cotter said, “This is Shakespeare’s most famous love story. It has great sword fighting, romance and drama, so don’t miss it.”

Work Sunday

Producer Ed Cotter and Set Designer Tony Pereslete said Work Sunday for Romeo and Juliet is scheduled for Sunday, February 19, 2006. According to Tony, we need to take down the current set and start on the new set. He said there is a lot of work to do and a lot of help is needed. Tony said builder skills are not a prerequisite and there are many tasks available to anyone who comes down. Producer Ed Cotter is planning an extravagant lunch for all who attend and remember, you get those all important POINTS toward your Kentwood membership.

Children’s Production

The Emperor’s New Clothes, by Blanche Marvin

Playing dates are scheduled for March 18, 25 and April 1, 2006.

Director Shari Barrett and producer Charlotte Lee Schildkret are pleased to announce the cast for this Spring's family show "The Emperor's New Clothes," which will have three Saturday matinee performances at 2:00 PM on March 18, March 25, and April 1. Please plan to attend the show with your family and enjoy the performances of Christy Lee Engels, Hal Fisher, Lauren Friedman, Marlene Grinde, Michael Grinde, and Daniel A. Tennant. All seats are $7.00 for all performances. Sign-up to be an usher at the February meeting and be a part of the festivities!

May/June Production

The show, directed by Kirk Larson and produced by Lori A. Marple-Pereslete,
opens 5/5/06 and closes 6/17/06.

Auditions will be: Saturday, 3/11/06, 12:00 PM to 3 PM
Sunday, 3/12/06, 6 PM to 8 PM

Callbacks will be: Sunday, 3/12/06, 8 PM

Work Sunday for Fantasticks is scheduled for Sunday, 4/16/2006.

El Gallo: Baritone. Handsome narrator.
Luisa: Soprano. Romantic girl.
Matt: Baritone/Tenor. Innocent boy.
Hucklebee: Baritone. Matt’s father.
Bellomy: Baritone. Luisa’s father.
Henry: Non-singing. Aging actor.
Mortimer: Non-singing. Henry’s sidekick.
The Mute: Male or Female. Speechless. watches, acts as the wall, etc.

George Washington Slept Here, Moss Hart and George Kaufman
July/August Production

Playing July 7, 2006 through August 19, 2006. Work Sunday: June 18, 2006.

Our July August 2006 Production of George Washington Slept Here by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will be directed by Phil Brickey. Producers Shari Barrett and Charlotte Lee Schildkret have been signed and will be seeking crew members. If interested, call them directly.

Most Happy Fella, Music, Lyrics and Book by Frank Loesser
September/October Production

Playing dates: September 8, 2006 through October 21, 2006. Work Sunday: 8/20/06.

The board has approved our September October Production for 2006 as THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, to be directed by Ben Lupejkis. Producers on this production will be Rocky and Vicki Miller. They will need crew, so give them a call.

Nicholas Nickleby, by Gregory Blair.
November/December Production

Playing dates: November 10, 2006 through December 16, 2006. Work Sunday: 10/22/06.

The board has approved our November December Production for 2006 as NICHOLAS NICKLEBY to be directed by August Vivirito.

The Wake, by Steve Allen
January/February Production

Playing dates: January 13, 2007 through February 18, 2007. Work Sunday: 12/16/06.

The board has approved our January February Production for 2007 as The Wake, by Steve Allen to be directed by Sheldon Metz.

Nominating Committee

Our Nominating Committee for 2006/2007 Officers and Board Members has been named as Sheldon Metz, Margie Bates, Gert Nord, Scot Renfo and Gail Barnardi. Please contact any member of the committee to nominate a candidate for our next slate!

Brand New Theater!

Have you seen our Brand New Theater?? Thanks to the genius and talent of long time member Scot Renfo, painter extraordinaire, we have new paint on our old building. Scot has done wonderful work, be sure to check out the mural on the north wall of the theater.

Work Saturday - Shop

Sheldon Metz, Shellee James, Phil Brickey and Melvin Miller would like to thank the following people, who came down to the theater on Saturday, January 21, 2006 and helped clean up the workshop: Gail Bernardi, Phil Brickey, Maria Cohen, Larry Cosgrove, Kathy Engelhardt, Hal Fisher, Michael & Marlene Grinde, Larry Jones, Ben Lupejkis, Julia Maggs, Tony & Lori Pereslete, Lee Polak, Charlotte Lee Schildkret, Bob Schnauss, Muriel and Al Sidell and Dave Whale.

Enormous strides were accomplished and areas where, “No man has gone before,” have been cleaned and straightened. Check it out!

Work Saturday - Costume

Maria Cohen is working on a Work Saturday to sort out and clean up the costumes and costume areas. Maria will be contacting members directly to help out. If interested in helping with this important project, please contact Maria.

Announcements

Sheldon Metz designed the set for the World Premiere of AMERICAN KLEZMER, produced by the West Coast Jewish Theater, at the Egyptian Arena Theater, 1625 North Las Palmas, Hollywood. The play runs through March 19, 2006. Check with Sheldon or call the theater for costs and times.

Mel Oshins is playing the King of France in DEAR WORLD (Based on The Mad Woman of Chaillot), music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, at The Joslyn Center Theatre, Palm Desert, California, 760 340 3220 X 109. Shows February 16, 17, 23 & 24, 2006 at 7:00 PM and February 18, 19, 25 & 26 at 2:00 PM.

Stage Manager Opportunity:
Currently looking for a stage manager who can be at all rehearsals and performances for "A Hatful of Rain" at the Whitmore-Lundley Theatre in North Hollywood (Magnolia and Lankershim). "A Hatful of Rain" opens June 23rd with rehearsals starting May 8th. Hours will be evenings 7:30-11 PM and Saturdays 10 AM-6 PM. Thursdays and Sundays off. Director is David Blanchard who directed "A Few Good Men" and "Dealer's Choice" at the 3rd Stage Theatre in Burbank. Performances will be dedicated to Shelley Winters and Anthony Franciosa, stars of the original Broadway production, who both recently passed away. This is an equity waiver (99 seat) production. Congratulations are in order for Lauren Ciancimino (Boys Next Door/I Remember Mama), who has recently been named Editor in Chief for Santa Monica College’s prestigious newspaper, The Corsair.
