General Meeting

The General Meeting this month will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2005, 8:00 P.M. at the theater, Westchester Playhouse, 8301 Hindry Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

Workshop

The September Workshop will be THE PRINCESS BRIDE, by William Goldman, adapted for the stage and directed by Shari Barrett, with swordfight choreography by Randy Ball. The cast includes Randy Ball, Drew Fitzsimmons, Vic Helford, Gregg Lawrence, Tony Pereslete, Alicja Sprague, Daniel A. Tennant and Alexana Thomas.

October Workshop

Our October Workshop will be the Music Hall and all are encouraged to join in! I have been informed the final date to sign up for the Music Hall will be the September General Meeting. Check with Workshop Chairperson Gert Nord at the meeting!

Light Up the Sky  September/October Production (Sept 9 to Oct 15)

Our September/October production of Light Up the Sky, a comedy by Moss Hart, is directed by Kathleen Chapin and produced by De Cotter and Susan Weisbarth

Light Up the Sky opened to a very appreciative audience on Opening Night, with festivities after the show at the Stick and Stein. Many wonderful standout performances in this production, so hurry down to see this one!

Work Sunday/New Seats

Producers De Cotter and Susan Weisbarth and House Manager Melvin Miller would like to thank everyone who came out on Work Sunday to help with the set change out and the new seat installation. A huge thank you goes out to Richard Potthoff, Dave Whale and especially Frank Olivadoti for all of their hard work to get our new seats in and working.  The job included a lot of construction to cut down and rebuild the ramp audience left. Somehow, the finished shape has made the auditorium look bigger and better, as well as being way more comfortable!Thanks guys!

The Unsinkable Molly Brown, by Meredith Willson and Richard Morris, November/December Production (Nov 4 – Dec 17)

Director Victoria Miller reports she and Producers Ben Lupejkis and Patricia Butler and Musical Director Brian Murphy held auditions on 9/10 and 9/12. Vicki let me know she has a fabulous cast and will introduce them to us at the September General Meeting.

45 Seconds From Broadway January/February (2006)

Our January/February 2006 production will be 45 SECONDS FROM BROADWAY, by Neil Simon, to be directed by Gail Barnardi.

Romeo & Juliet March/April Production

Our March April 2006 production will be Romeo & Juliet, by William Shakespeare, to be directed by Don Schlossman.

The Fantasticks May/June Production

Our May June 2006 Production will be The Fantasticks, Music by Harvey Schmidt, book and lyrics by Tom Jones, to be directed by Kirk Larson.

Christmas Production

Sheldon Metz is set to direct and Shellee James to produce our Christmas Production of Pinocchio, by Blanche Marvin. Performances are slated for three Saturdays on December 3, 10 & 17.  Thus far the cast includes Drew Fitzsimmons and Phil Brickey. Sheldon is looking for a male actor to play a couple of roles and needs someone who can rehearse afternoons.If you’re interested, please contact Sheldon or Shellee.

Telephone Tree

Charlotte Lee Schildkret let me know she is the chairman of the new telephone tree with members Barbara Brophey, Maria Cohen, Hal Fisher, Sheldon Metz, Gert Nord and Jeanne Spain.

Announcements

Elizabeth A. Bouton will be performing the role of Penelope Pennwise in the West Coast Premiere of Urinetown the Musical at the Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse.  Show dates are August 26 - September 25, 2005.  Please visit their website at www.CostaMesaPlayhouse.org or call (949) 650-5269 for more information or reservations.

According to Charlotte Lee Schildkret, Rocky Miller’s father is at Culver West Convalescent Hospital recovering from a broken hip. She also visited with Dassa Kalmanson at Vista Del Sol where she is currently living. Charlotte told me Barbara Brophey stops by as well and Dassa would enjoy more Kentwood Players visiting.

Alison Mattiza told me she is very excited to be cast as Ruth in Pirates of Penzance Starring Rex Smith as the Pirate King. The Show will run October 14 – 22 at the Bellflower Civic Center, 16699 Civic Center Drive in Bellflower. Six performances only- you con contact the box office at 562 867 3524. According to Rocky, Kristen Miller will appear in the first two episodes of JOEY this season, Sept 22 and Sept 29, at 8:00 PM on NBC.

Kentwood Member James Knudsen got rave reviews for his performance in Merry Wives of Windsor for Shakespeare Santa Barbara: “Also Excellent are Charlie Woods as the language mangling preacher Sir Hugh Evans and Kames Knudsen, who turns the French physician Dr. Caius into a character straight out of a Monty Python Sketch.”

Company Cast member Lateefah DeVoe got the following rave review in Backstage West for a show at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista: “Lateefah DeVoe as Alice’s daughter stops the show with her gospel number, HOW BLEST WE ARE.”
