General Meeting

The General Meeting this month will be on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, 8:00 P.M. at the theater, Westchester Playhouse, 8301 Hindry Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

Hospitality

Meeting Hospitality for the August General Meeting will be provided by Jeanne and Larry Cosgrove. Thanks guys!

Workshop

The August workshop is the first act of PROOF, a play by David Auburn, to be directed by Sheldon Metz with Christine Joëlle Torreele, Shawn Savage, Dave Parke and Dawn Joyal. Sheldon says, "You will be amazed!"

Company May/June Production

Company, Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by George Furth, is over!

Director Aileen-Marie Scott and producers Larry Jones and Sheridan Cole join to make the following announcement: According to Kentwood Treasurer, Catherine Rahm and Kentwood Box Office Chairperson Julia Maggs, COMPANY garnered an 83% attendance rate for the run of the show and turned in a profit of $7,700.00.

The Rainmaker July/August Production

Our July/August production of The Rainmaker, by N. Richard Nash, is directed by August Vivirito and is produced by Ed Cotter and Jake Weisbarth.

The Rainmaker opened Friday July 15, 2005, starring Dan Adams, Jeffrey Culp, Beau Puckett, Scot Renfro, Shawn Savage, Christine Joëlle Torreele and Phil Ward.

Rainmaker continues to draw a huge crowd, pleasing all who attend. Producers Ed and Jake said, "Don't miss this one!"

Light Up the Sky September/October Production

Our September/October production of Light Up the Sky, a comedy by Moss Hart, will be directed by Kathleen Chapin and produced by De Cotter and Susan Weisbarth

Performances: September 9th - October 15th.

Work Sunday

WORK SUNDAY: AUGUST 21, 2005 FOR LIGHT UP THE SKY!

Producers De Cotter and Susan Weisbarth would like to remind everyone we have only a short time between shows this time, 3 weeks and there is a lot work to do. We will also be working on the new seating arrangement for the auditorium. Producers request lots of help and promise a fabulous lunch. Come on down!

New Seats

Final arrangements are being made with the new seats for our theater, which will put the auditorium back in the configuration we had prior to the change, except there will be 14 seats across and the audience left ramp will be approximately 3 feet wide. Please come to Work Sunday on August 21 and help with the set take down and with rearranging the new seats!

The Unsinkable Molly Brown, by Meredith Willson and Richard Morris, November/December Production

Director Victoria Miller reports she and Producers Ben Lupejkis and Patricia Butler and Musical Director Brian Murphy will hold auditions for this musical on Saturday, 9/10, from 1 to 4 PM and MONDAY 9/12, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, at the theater. Prepare a song from the musical or from another musical. Scripts will be available at the September Meeting. The musical will run from 11/4 thru 12/17 and Work Sunday will be 10/16. Vicki said all roles will age during the play ten years and she provided the following cast breakdown:

Molly Tobin Brown, 20's to 30's, Metzo to character voice, spirited, charismatic, backwoods girl.
Shamus Tobin, late 40's to 60's, Molly's crusty, but wise and loving father.
Leadville Johnny Brown, 30's to late 40's, Big legit voice. Handsome bull of a man, with a sweet temperament and good humor.
Prince DeLong, 30's to late 40's, Handsome European charmer.
Mrs. McGlove, 40' to 60's, non-singing role. Snobby Denver society diva.
Monsignor Ryan, 40's to 60's, Kind clergyman with a great sense of humor.
Princess DeLong, 30's to 40's. Sophisticated and elegant.
Christmas Morgan, 30's to 50's. Big happy man, saloon owner.
Roberts, 30's to 50's. The butler.
And 8 - 12 male and female roles, all ages, mainly character dancers: Denver Police, Royalty, townspeople (Upper Crust and crusty miners), Prostitute Saloon Dancers and three small speaking roles to play Molly's brothers, age 16 to 20.

45 Seconds From Broadway January/February (2006)

The Kentwood Players Board has approved our January/February 2006 production as 45 Seconds From Broadway, by Neil Simon, to be directed by Gail Barnardi.

Romeo & Juliet March/April Production

Our March April 2006 production will be Romeo & Juliet, by William Shakespeare, to be directed by Don Schlossman.

The Fantasticks May/June Production

Our May June 2006 Production will be The Fantasticks, Music by Harvey Schmidt, book and lyrics by Tom Jones, to be directed by Kirk Larson.

Kentwood Dinner Dance, Marcom Mask Awards for the 2004/2005 Season

Kudos inadvertently left out of last month's Bulletin go to Dinner Dance committee members Michael Cohen for his design on the cover of the program and Hal Fisher for Dinner Dance Photography.

Some News to Report

Charlotte and Arnold Schildkret shared some news with us about long time Kentwood member Dorothy Rocklin. She shared with Arnold some of her own health concerns including several heart attacks and congestive heart attacks, Arthritis, Diabetes attacked and destroyed one kidney, the other kidney is functioning at 25%, an operation on her arm and has Dialysis pending. She says, "But I Still Keep Kicking!"

Sad News to Report

Jeanne Spain's granddaughter Rachel, age 22, who had been in poor health, passed away recently in Santa Cruz.

Charlotte Lee Schildkret reports Arnold is doing much better and would like to thank everyone who called and sent cards. He is most appreciative and says Thank You very much.

Aileen-Marie Scott will be directing, and Michelle Rosen will be performing in "The Cemetery Club" at Stage Door Theatre, 28311 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, CA 91301 http://www.logix.com/stagedoor/. The run will be Thursday thru Saturday evenings with Sunday matinees from July 29th thru Sept. 11th. Tix 818 889 5209. Aileen will also be performing in "The House of Yes" at Tre Theatre (Next Stage Theatre 1523 N La Brea) in Hollywood as Mrs. Pascal (a very unusual mother, to a more unusual and "close" family) performing on Saturday evenings August 12th, 17th, 24th, and Sept. 2nd, with a possible (probable) extension. A very intimate 99 seat equity waiver venue.
Congratulations to Sheldon Cohen winner of the 2005 VIC award for Best Supporting Performance in, IT'S NEVER TO LATE TO LEARN. The VIC awards are presented annually by KLCS, channel 58, in Los Angeles. The awards show was aired in June. It will be rerun on August 31 at 10:00 AM.

Elizabeth A. Bouton will be performing the role of Penelope Pennwise in the West Coast Premiere of Urinetown the Musical at the Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse. Pamla Vale Abramson is set to compete in the Ms. Senior California Pageant, Sat. 09/17/05, at The Marina del Rey Hotel, 13534 Bali Way, Marina del Rey, 1 PM ($10.00 Admission). Pamla is the current Ms. Senior California of Palm Desert and she will be competing in September against 17 other contestants. Break a leg Pamla!

Shari Barrett announced a September Workshop of THE PRINCESS BRIDE, by William Goldman, which she has adapted for the stage and will direct, with Randy Ball, Andrew Fitzsimmons, Vic Helford, Gregg Lawrence, Lori Marple-Pereslete, Tony Pereslete, Alicja Sprague & Daniel Tennant.

Mel Oshins emailed to let us know he was involved in a August 14, 2005 Benefit celebrating the life of Jim Warner, an actor and director who passed away recently. The show was made up of pieces of plays Jim directed at the Hi Desert Playhouse in Joshua Tree, CA. Mel was set to do his "Somebody Stole My Gal" routine!
