General Meeting

The General Meeting this month will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, 8:00 PM.

Goodies this month will be provided by Tom & Barbara Brophey.

Our January Workshop is a scene from Frankie & Johnny in the Clare de Lune, by Terrance McNally, Directed by Kathleen Chapin, with Carmen Lynn and David Michael Trevino.

The Sunshine Boys January/February Production

The Sunshine Boys opened January 14, 2005 to an appreciative audience and will close on February 19, 2005. All in attendance had a wonderful time at another great Kentwood Opening Night. Congratulations to director Sheldon Metz and his talented cast and crew. Don’t miss this one!

Peripheral Vision This one act play for seniors will be directed by August Vivirito. It was one of the winners of a one-act play contest at the Attic Theater. There will be 2 performances, February 12th and February 19th, 2005.

Casting is actually in progress as I file this report. Look forward with me to having the cast introduced at the January Membership meeting.

Company May/June Production

Director Aileen-Marie Scott and producers Larry Jones and Sheridan Cole.

Scripts available at the meeting for a rental deposit of $10.00.

Aileen says the show is set in New York, 1972. On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. In vignette after hilarious vignette, we are introduced to "those good and crazy people," his married friends, as Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life. In the end, he realizes being alone is "alone, not alive." Think 70's, think New York, think whatever you like, but come on down and audition!!!!

Auditions will be held Saturday March 12th, 12-3 and Sunday March 13 7-9, callbacks TBD.  Please prepare 16 bars of music to show range (no Webber please), audition accompanist will be provided.  Please bring sheet music in appropriate key.  No taped music or acapella.  Be ready to read from the script.  No movement till callbacks.  Looking for strong actor/singers, all types, looks and ethnicities encouraged to audition.

A frantic, neurotic, loving woman, alto, early 30's

APRIL

A girlfriend of Robert - a flight attendant; a bit air-headed, but adorable, soprano, 20's

DAVID

Jenny's husband, relaxed, in control, tenor,  late 30's to 40's

HARRY

Sarah's husband - an alcoholic in self-denial, tenor, 40's

JENNY

Quietly manipulative, simultaneously square and wise, soprano, late 30's-40

JOANNE

Acerbic, funny, demanding, alto, 40-50's

KATHY

A girlfriend of Robert - sweet and very much in need of love, mezzo, 20-30's, strong dancer!!!

LARRY

Joanne's husband, stoic and centered, baritone, 40's-50's

MARTA

A girlfriend of Robert - an intensely "with-it" woman, alto with high belt, 20's

PAUL

Amy's fiancé - coolly loving to Amy's neurotic nature, tenor, 30's

PETER

Susan's husband - the perfect husband and ex-husband, baritone, 30's-40's

ROBERT

An observer, seemingly happy, but with a hidden pain, strong tenor, must play 35

SARAH

Crisply critical, karate-learning over-eater, alto late 30's early 40's,

SUSAN

A delicate southern belle,  soprano, 30's to 40's

The Rainmaker July/August Production

Our July/August production of The Rainmaker will be directed by August Vivirito.

Light Up the Sky September/October Production

Our September/October production of Light Up the Sky will be directed by Kathleen Chapin.

Kentwood Dinner Dance 2004/2005 Season

Dinner Dance Chairman Calia Mintzer would like everyone to be sure to put the Dinner Dance date in your new 2005 calendar. This season’s gala will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2005. Members need to see every show for the season, so they can vote on the awards.

Maria Cohen is trying to put together a theater party to attend the Charles Dickens Festival in Riverside, the first week of February 2005. See her at the meeting if you are interested or have additional questions.

According to Dave Parke, Kentwood Players garnered two spots on Kari Sayers’ Top Ten South Bay Theater Productions of 2004, Number 6 with Murder on the Nile, Directed by Sheridan Cole and Number 9 with Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Rob Duval.

Oleanna at The Little Fish Theater in San Pedro, Directed by our own Ed Cotter ran away with Number one and Twilight of the Golds with our own Dave Parke landed the Number 4 spot. Kentwood and our Players did pretty well this year, congratulations to all!

Pamla Abramson has won the Desert Theater League’s Desert Star Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for her role as Sally in The Supporting Cast.

Dee Turquand reports having back surgery on 9/27/2004 and after spending 9-10 weeks at her son’s home in Culver City, she is back home in Rialto and I am sure would appreciate some calls!

Barbara McMurray Jonides has completed her work on the book of Monty Ash’s Prose and wants to let everyone know they can obtain a copy by contacting her at 310/204-4663 or by email at bimeubul@juno.com.

Vickie Miller would like to announce Rocky Miller will be stepping into Neil Simon’s "Rumors" at the Morgan-Wixson Theater in Santa Monica for one weekend only: Friday 1/28 at 8 PM, Saturday 1/29 at 2 PM & 8 PM and Sunday 1/30 at 2 PM. Lewis Hauser is directing and Scott Renfro & Renee Travelli, who was in Rumors at KP, are in the cast. For reservations call the theater at 310/828-7519. Vickie also reports Lewis Hauser won best director and Barry Silver tied for best actor for their work at the Morgan on Laughter on the 23rd Floor. She said the show tied for best production. Barry Silver, you will recall, was in the Kentwood production of Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
