1940’s Radio Hour:
November/December Production
The 1940’s Radio Hour
opened Friday, November 5, to a very warm and appreciative
audience. This technically challenging show supplied
many laughs, heartfelt moments, wonderful musical numbers,
a 3 piece combo and terrific acting. Audience
members, many Kentwoodians, could be seen swaying and
heard singing along to the music. Dave Parke led
the continuous laughter at the accurate, yet comical,
radio commercials, particular among those one about
lawyers needing a laxative. Many people in attendance
commented how interesting it was to watch so much activity
bustling around this radio studio as the show progressed.
Many expressed the desire to return so they could
just watch the other characters "live their lives"
off the mics. People who sat close found it difficult
to capture all the moments, as those moments continued
to happen on every part of the beautiful set provided
by Sheldon Metz. The costumes provided by Phil
Massi et al are sumptuous and oh so right, and the choreography
by Vicki Miller is exciting and diverse, with all dance
numbers elevating the impact of the show. And who could
forget the Coke machine created by Tony Pereslete and
the period microphones fashioned by Michael Cohen. The
after party at Der Stein lasted until we were booted
out. It was a Kentwood affair as many members
joined in the celebration of a successful opening. A
highlight were cast gifts to the multifaceted Jim Crawford
(stage manager/props master/actor), Vicki Miller (choreographer)
and Ben Lupejkis (director/co-set decorator), each receiving
a reproduction Crosley radio for their efforts in getting
this wonderful 1940’s Radio Hour on the boards.
(Ben Lupejkis)
According to all reports, Opening
Night was a big success and I encourage all members
to come see the show with a few hundred of your closest
friends.
