This month's workshop will
feature special effects in an original piece by Tony
Pereslete. |
Father of the Bride:
This comedy written by Caroline Francke is directed by
Kirk Larson and produced by Alison Mattiza and Jon Sparks.
The curtain rose on this classic comedy on Friday, November
8. Performances are through December 14. Make your reservations
now so you don't miss out.
Rain: This drama set in 1923
on the South Sea's island of Pago Pago was written by John
Colton and Clemence Randolph. It is the sultry tale of sexuality
and hypocrisy, a human game of chess. It's the story of
a free-spirited young woman who makes a preacher quiver
with lust in the South Seas. It will be directed by Sheldon
Metz and produced by Calia Mintzer and Frank Roys, running
from January 10, 2003 - February 15, 2003. By the time this
reaches you Rain should be cast. Hopefully Sheldon will
announce his cast at the general meeting. Work Sunday is
December 15 beginning at 10:00 AM. It's not too soon to
mark your calendars for this busy time of year. When you
come, if you have an old victrola with a horn, please bring
it! The show is in need of one!
Kiss Me Kate: The Cole Porter musical
based on Taming of the Shrew was approved by the board to
be directed by Max Heldring Stormes for July/August 2003.
Musical Concert Series: A Grand Night
for Singing is a musical revue that explores the broad spectrum
of romantic relationships by intertwining over 30 Rodgers
and Hammerstein songs, both classics and lesser-known songs
alike. Directed by Elizabeth A. Bouton (also the musical
director and producer) and choreographed by Alison Mattiza
this revue plays November 17 and 24 and December 1 and 8.
The cast includes Risa Larson, Melanie Marshall, Christopher
Peduzzi, Aileen-Marie Scott, and Jon Sparks. Mike Walker
is on piano and Ken Futch is on percussion. Thanks to Michelle
Rosen and Tara Potthoff for their help at auditions.
This and that (that shouldn't go
unread): The walls of fame have been refurbished by Paul
Mazerov and Hal Fisher. Bo Beaudin left five large boxes
of photographs spanning 20 years of Kentwood shows. Should
we decide to keep them a crew will be needed to sort them.
We have a new box office chairperson, Julia Maggs! The theatre
will be purchasing an amplifier for the keyboard at a cost
not to exceed $350. The theatre is being audited by the
city of L.A. for a business tax for 2000 - 2002. Treasurer
Sheldon Cohen is looking into the matter. House Manager
Shellee James has brought all the fire extinguishers at
the theatre up-to-date. A reminder from Web Master Liaison,
Hal Fisher, to be sure to look at our web site frequently.
If you want something added to it, you must submit it to
Hal, not to web master Andy Klute. A committee has been
formed of Max Stormes, Maria Cohen, Julia Maggs, and Shellee
James to organize a clean out of the garage and greenroom.
When the date is set volunteers will be recruited to come
help. Finally, if you are the last one out of the lobby
be sure to pull on all the doors from the outside to be
sure they are locked.
Westchester Holiday Street Parade: Step-off for this annual
event is 2:00 PM on December 8. However, if you need to
be costumed you'll need to be at the theatre by 11:00 AM
that day. Charlotte Schildkret is the contact person for
this event. Please let her know if you plan to participate!
Bylaws: Proposed amendments at the
October General Membership Meeting were approved, with one
being held for a discussion and vote at this month's meeting:

Saturday June 21. Thanks to Calia Minzer, dinner dance chair,
we have a new band this year, The Leadmen. (Hopefully that's
lead like foremost, not lead like the metal!)
Season Tickets: The number of season
ticket holders is gradually increasing. Just remember, they're
great for gifts ('tis almost the season you know!) at only
$45.00, think about purchasing them for friends, neighbors,
business associates.
Here, There, and Everywhere: Stephen
Alan Carver is directing David Mamet's Sexual Perversity
in Chicago at the Palos Verdes Players Theatre in Torrance.

"The Wishing Bear" for which they run a booth
at the Street Fair at the College of the Desert on weekends.
Jon is also busy directing and Pamla choreographing the
spring show in Sun City.
On a Sad Note: I am sad to report
the passing of two former members. Gail Johnson (Leonard)
passed away in April. She had been quite ill. Gail can be
remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her funny
laugh. She appeared in The Torchbearers and A Cat on A Hot
Tin Roof. I just received a note from Fred Fryer telling
me of his wife's death. Jeannette Hofmann passed away May
30. She spoke to Fred many times of how she enjoyed her
association with Kentwood.
