Concert Series:  A Grand Night for Singing featuring the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein will be directed  by Elizabeth A. Bouton (also the musical director) and choreographed by Alison Mattiza.  It will play November 17 and 24 and December 1 and 8.  The following is the cast breakdown:

3 women (soprano, 2nd soprano, and alto)
  2 men (tenor and baritone)

Singers must be vocally versatile with strong sight reading/harmonizing ability, move well, and be at home with both comic and dramatic material.  Auditioners should prepare 16 bars of a Rodgers and Hammerstein up-tempo and ballad.  Auditions will be held September 21, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM and September 22 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM.  For additional information call Elizabeth at (562) 856-5587.  They are also looking for a good drummer who is reasonable!

This and that (that shouldn’t go unread):  REMINDER!  If you use the theatre you must be sure all the doors are locked when you leave the premises!  Wanted:  a new band for the 2003 Dinner Dance.  If anyone knows of a good, inexpensive group, please contact Calia Mintzer.

Proposed Bylaw Change:  The proposed change regarding the fiscal year was passed by the general membership at the July meeting. Now the fiscal year will coincide with the play season and membership year.

Season Tickets:  Dave Parke once again reminds us of the following:  Please remember Kentwood Season subscriptions as gifts and business premiums.  Where else can you get a $72.00 gift for $45.00 and support your favorite non-profit organization at the same time???  Give them to the mailman for Christmas, the local grocer, your plumber, a favorite neighbor...This is a very inexpensive way to support Kentwood and get new blood through our doors.  Also remember your kid’s teacher, your dentist (give one to the teacher and sell one to the dentist and doctor!)  Any more ideas are welcome!

Here, There, and Everywhere:  Joyce Croft is enjoying her retirement.  She has had to curtail many Kentwood activities in order to spend more time in England with her mother - now 104 and still active!  She sends love to all and hopes to be able to participate more next year.  Helen Geller will be touring with the national touring company of The Alchemist’s Wife.  She’ll begin touring in September for six months.  Wishes for a full and speedy recovery go out to Dorothy Rochlin who recently had a heart attack.  She will be staying with her daughter for a couple of weeks.  Congratulations to Gert Nord who just became a great-grandmother!

On a sad note:  It is with a heavy heart that I write about the passing of long time member Conny Sless.  Conny was living with his wife Hetty, in his daughter’s home in Winter Springs, Florida.  He passed away at home on July 22 with his family there.  Our prayers go out to Hetty, his daughters Jeanna and Sharon, his grandchildren Eric and Callie, and the rest of his family and friends.

Celebrations:  Happy August Birthdays to Judy Wisansky (8/2), Huston Jack (8/3), Joyce Croft (8/4), Van Mattiza (8/4), Jaz Davison (8/5), Estelle Abrams (8/7), Susan Stangl (8/7), Jim Lunsford (8/8), Shellee James (8/9), Bob Martz (8/15), Catherine Karklyn (8/20), Elisabeth Tellez (8/20) George Rametta (8/20), Kristen Miller (8/20), Richard Potthoff (8/29), and Alison Mattiza (8/30).  Celebrating another year of married bliss this month are Lee and Judy Polack (8/3), Scot and Virginia Renfro (8/8), Bill and Mary Buhler (8/12), Gene and Lynn Warech (8/15), and Alfonso and Larcenia Freeman (8/20).

Just for the record:  Please...if you want something placed in the bulletin, call (310)204-1838 or e-mail me at our NEW ADDRESS (N6KOA_J@JUNO.COM)!  I try to write the bulletin the Sunday following the Board Meeting (which is the first Wednesday of the month).  It’s very helpful to have the information before that day.   Until next month!
